I'm still wrongfully confined... apparently I "can't be trusted"...
[To not undo all the clinic's hard work? Yeah, probably not. Or maybe the clinic is just being extra cautious, with certain other Pokemon ending up there thanks to overdoing it recently.]
[Despite Siffrin's melodramatic tone, there's an immediate feeling of them perking up at being contacted.]
Well, I'm coming to visit, so put your latest escape plan on hold, all right? [The slightest flicker of embarrassment, then.] I'm bringing you something. Consider it a get-well gift, or whatever.
[Siffrin sends over a mental image of them pressing a paw to their chest.] How can you say that! [They're shocked! Shocked and hurt!] Betrayed by my own former cellmate...
[The image breaks apart as Shoka continues and Sif is caught off guard. Oh!!]
[Oh...]
[The little flicker of Shoka's embarrassment helps them get ahold of themself. They resume The Bit, trying to play it off for both themself and Shoka.] I guess I have no choice! I'll be here, languishing.
[Stage direction, sotto voce:] You hid a spoon in it, right. [That's a thing, isn't it? People digging their way out of dungeons with a spoon?]
If you happen to find a convenient getaway vehicle on the way...
[Aka: nope, they're good!]
[When Shoka gets to the clinic, Siffrin's lounging on a cot, trying not to make a Big Deal over how much of a Big Deal it is to them to have someone checking on them(!) and bringing them a get-well gift(!!). They've already shifted over to make sure Shoka has room to hop up, though, and their ears are swiveled toward the doorway.]
[They're still in a sling, which is probably why the 'wardens' haven't released them, but otherwise they're pretty much recovered by this point.]
[She could probably just call A.B.A, honestly. A Silvally is basically a getaway vehicle, right?
Though she's smaller than most of the other Pokémon milling about in the clinic, it's easy to spot Shoka from afar when she arrives because she's carrying a large, white (darkless), pointed hat that's about as big as she is. Siffrin's hat, recreated with impressive accuracy.
She might have wrapped it if she could have found a big enough box... But Siffrin already knew she was making it, so it's not like it's really a surprise, and their injuries would most likely keep them from opening it easily anyway. So here she is, shuffling along with it hoisted above her head so she can actually see where she's going.
She makes a beeline for Siffrin's cot, calling out once she's close enough:]
[Okay so they did know that Shoka was working on it already, but. That's one thing, and seeing it in person is entirely different! Shoka can probably see their eyes outright sparkle.]
[They pat the cot next to them with one paw in an invitation to hop up, but it takes them a second to be able to respond without their voice cracking. Which they mostly do by retreating back to a slightly wobbly teasing tone:] Soooo... do I have to sign for it?
[The Stargazing Club, as with all of the clubs Shoka signed herself up for on a whim, only sees her in attendance for about half of their meetings. Tonight just so happens to be one of those nights.
She'd met up with Siffrin briefly to say hi before scurrying away to fetch them both hot drinks to enjoy together with the stars; now, her arm snakes out into Siffrin's field of vision, claws delicately placing a mug (or bowl, or whatever they had available) of hot cocoa before them as she reclaims her spot beside them.]
What'd I miss?
[In her other hand, she carries her own steaming mug. Like all of the trinkets Mightyena gifted those who completed her quest this month, the mug is made from clay and decorated with... what must be Shoka's footprint.
It must be Shoka's footprint, but the shape is impossible to decipher. Should Siffrin try to look at it, they'll find that their brain glances right off it, somehow unable to grasp what it even looks like. There's something wrong about it—headache-inducing, if not viscerally upsetting.]
[The moon is very clearly overhead and unexploded, albeit very deep into waning - it's almost a new moon. Makes the stars stand out more!]
I tried to call you, but a bunch of Clefairy put it back together before I could.
[They give her a wordless thank-you blink for the hot cocoa, pressing their paws against the sides of the bowl to warm them. For a moment, their working eye catches on her mug - then slips sideways.]
[Their mind doesn't want to focus on it. Feels like...]
[They shake their head slightly, confused. Did they just forget something?]
[Boooo ruining their fun. They stick their tongue out at her.]
No, just... had a feeling I was forgetting something...
[Which. Admittedly. Is a very loaded phrase for anything to do with Siffrin at this point. But they do also just have a "normal" bad memory, as far as they're concerned.]
[Still, that feeling - something must have made them think of... home, right? Their eye drifts back to Shoka's mug, then tries to slide off again.]
[That's absolutely a loaded phrase. Shoka squints, studying them warily—and then blinks in surprise when they bring up her mug.]
Huh? Oh...
[She reacts like she's forgotten something, too. When she raises the mug a little, turning it so its front directly faces Siffrin, they may notice that she's making a point not to look at the design herself.]
What's it look like?
[She sounds faintly amused—like she knows how headache-inducing the image is and is doing this on purpose—but also genuinely curious.]
[Whatever it is, it's failing to stick in their head so thoroughly that they actually can't try to guess. Which is... weird. Even when they see something they can't remember the name of, or can tell they've forgotten what it does, they can usually describe it when staring directly at it...]
[With, maybe, the exception of -]
[...okay, this is probably a really weird thing to say if they're wrong. But also this is Shoka, who's hung on through so much of their weird already (and vice versa). So.]
[After a long day of looking for triangles, Siffrin and Shoka's reward is nothing more than an ominous promise from their Abra charge: there is no possible way that they will be stranded here for much longer.
It feels more like a penalty than a reward. Though Shoka initially scoffs and dismisses it ("What's that supposed to mean? You call that 'information'?"), she's strangely quiet afterward, unable to come up with any further quips or comments. Her eyes are distant; something under her shroud briefly squirms as if in resistance.
Once the Abra is gone, she announces to Siffrin,] Well, that was dumb.
[Not to mention totally pointless. Well... almost totally pointless. She was having fun up until that last part.
They've been running around all day, but she still feels compelled to suggest, by way of a distraction:]
Anyways—you up for a little sparring? Still haven't been able to pull off an Electric-type move without using Mimic... but I think I've almost got it figured out.
[Siffrin has their own reasons to be on edge about a statement like that these days... but if the Abra hadn't said it with such confidence, they probably wouldn't be paying any attention to it. He's a newbie, right? They haven't seen him around before. What would he know?]
[Between his confidence and Shoka's quiet, though, they seem to be getting infected by her unease.]
...yeah, wasn't it? Who does he think he is, Dr. Denne?
[Hmm. Do they need to come up with a nickname for doctor mouse too, actually...?]
[They give one front paw a lick, in that way cats do where they're trying to convince you they're not thinking about anything else, then blink up at her.]
What, all that hiking wasn't enough for you today? [In a much lighter tone than the Mean Girls Bitching the two of them just engaged in. (The hiking that was kind of sort of their fault, also...)]
[They can't deny that they could burn off some nervous energy, though.] Sure, why not.
[Siffrin also stretches - as usual, extending their front paws first, then shaking out their back ones. Maybe this actually has a purpose? Or maybe stretching is just something you feel compelled to do once you've seen someone else do it, like yawning.]
Then you better nail it this time! [They tease. Can't have her ruining it by being more dumb!]
[The first move they learned... kind of hard to say, actually. They were doing so much instinctively, and it's all jumbled together in one mass of what they still can't help but think of as Electric Craft. But even though they didn't have a name for it back then, they think they do remember the first time they zapped someone on purpose...]
[With an amused snort, Shoka braces herself. Her disguise takes the hit for her, of course, but she tries to focus on the way the electricity flows around her body—and then from it, when she immediately proceeds to Mimic the move. The Thunder Shock starts in the cheeks of her now drooping disguise-head—just like it would if a Pikachu were to use the move—before enveloping her body and surging out through her claws at Siffrin's feet.
She isn't trying very hard at all to actually hit them—just firing close enough to demonstrate the move (and if they do let themselves get hit, it's a low-level move and they have type resistance on their side, so she doesn't expect them to take much damage).]
Thanks a watt! Now lemme just...
[Imitate it, without actual Mimicry... If she just pictures an Electric-affinity pin in the palm of her hand, then the arc of the Thunder Shock...
She lifts a hand and squints her eyes, trying to concentrate. Residual electricity skitters along her claws. She focuses on it, willing it to travel to the very tips of her fingers—]
[—Only for a split second of uncertainty—a passing thought—to completely and unceremoniously shatter her concentration. Instead of surging outward, the attack backfires and bites at her claws; she recoils with a hiss of pain.]
[Siffrin doesn't move - with their resistance, they're not worried about it. They lift one forepaw out of the way and let the jittering tendrils of leftover electricity bzzt against their other one, and that's about it.]
[They're more alarmed by the electricity that recoils back against her, taking an alarmed step forward. The fur on their tail poofs up, slightly. They've never had anything like that happen to them - if they've ever had problems, it's been failing to contain lightning. Maybe those are just the perks of being an Electric type.]
